Off the Beaten Path – Interlaken
Uncover a hidden hiking gem! Follow a secluded and enchanting mountain trail from Wilderswil to Saxeten village, filled with delightful surprises along the way.
Timeline
Departure
Take the train to the village of Wilderswil.
Start of Hike
Begin hiking along the hiking trail by the Saxetenbach river through the Sytiwald forest.
Midway Point
Reach the secluded Saxettal valley with Saxeten village at its center, a breath of fresh air from the bustling tourist hubs of Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen.
Continuing the Hike
Proceed hiking up through the forest to Abendberg to an abandoned hotel.
Scenic View
Enjoy one of the best views of Lake Brienz from Abendberg.
Return
Hike back down to Wilderswil.
End of Hike
The round-hike concludes at the same point where we started.

This hike covers a distance of 19.46 km (12.09 miles) with a total ascent of 1,001 m (3,284 feet). If you are feeling confident, we may also take a slightly longer trail.
The hike will be planned according to the local weather forecast. Be prepared for potential changes in weather and dress appropriately (layers, waterproof clothing, etc.).
You can take a detour to visit Saxeten village or buy local freshly made cheese (1-1.5 hours).
Good hiking shoes or boots are essential for this mountain trail due to varying terrain and potential elevation changes.

He was very well prepared with all necessary equipment, tasty snacks and a hearty picnic lunch.
